January has turned out to be surprisingly fun for me – I enjoyed catching up with friends one frothy latte at a time, started my journalism diploma, had a mother-daughter night once a week, took some time off from music (just for a month or two), and travel-wise, I’m in the middle of planning a trip to Southeast Asia which has been keeping my spirits high in a traditionally bleak month.
On top of all that, I cooked! Yes, there was lots and lots of cooking in my house this month. I follow quite a few food pages online, you know the ones with the beautifully shot videos which make it all look terribly easy? Well, thanks to them my phone is full of screenshots and (unfulfilled) good intentions. I have been known to save recipes only to either instantly forget or feel too lazy to ever wind up making any of them.
If you read my last post you would have seen that one of my goals for this year is to cook something new at least once a week. I want to up my cooking game and open my kitchen up to new ideas. I figured what better way to achieve that than to commit to trying a new recipe at least once a week for a year – that’s 52 new dishes in my repertoire by the end of it. Not bad right? It can be hot or cold, sweet or savory, I will even forgive myself if it doesn’t taste or look perfect, my only rule is I must not have made it before.
So here I am, end of January, first month of new recipes in the bag, and I have discovered that it really is amazing what you can make when you have the right ingredients and a bit of time on your hands. So without further adieu, here are my weekly recipes from January. Hope you enjoy.
- Just as a little side note, a lot of my recipes will be vegan or dairy free. I have to cook like this because of allergies but if you want to go ahead and use your regular milk/butter/cream you can. Although there is something lovely and light about vegan cooking, especially the desserts. Either way I promise you won’t be left short on taste.
